What kind of props should you get for your photo booth?

Guests like to use fun & silly props, popular items are: hats, glasses, mustaches, masks, boas, and signs.

Tip about boas: DO NOT use feathered boas, they will shed and leave feathers everywhere, on guests, on the floor, and all over your photo booth.  I recommend using featherless boas

When using signs for photo booth props, you can get single use paper signs from Amazon, or invest in high quality PVC prop signs that are usually double-sided.

These high quality printed signs are screen-printed on 1/8″ to 1/4″ PVC hard plastic.

You can buy them in a themed bundle pack and get extra use out of them because being double sided means it is 2 props in 1!

They pack up night and small for easy transport and they are easy to clean.  A quick wipe down with a Lysol wipe and voila, it’s all clean!

Where to Buy Photo Booth Props?

There are many different places you can buy props for photo booths, either online or in regular brick & mortar stores.

Many boothers will shop the after-halloween sales at the local party supply store to get all sorts of super hero and monster themed masks & props.

Online, you can buy cheap paper props and kits from Amazon, Oriental Trading, or other large companies.

If you want high quality props that are specifically designed for the professional photo booth industry, then we recommend that you buy your props from a recommended vendor.

The Photo Booth Vault is not affiliated in any way with any of these recommended vendors.  This vendor list is compiled from prop vendors that attend the annual Photo Booth Expo.

Backdrops, Stands & Banners

Every good photo booth picture taken needs a great backdrop behind it. When looking for backdrops for your DIY photo booth, be sure to keep these 3 things in mind.

  1. Sturdiness – You want to make sure your backdrop will be sturdy and not tip over if it is accidentally bumped by a guest in the photo.  So you should avoid the cheap tripod stand backdrops that are common on sites like Amazon.  They are very flimsy and do not last long.
  2. Reflectivity or Shininess – You do not want to have a backdrop that is highly reflective or shiny, as it will reflect light and glare back into the camera making for a poor picture.
  3. Size – Depending on the kind of photo booth you bought or made, you need to figure out how far from the backdrop you have to set your camera.  And then you have to calculate the field of view of the picture and make sure that your backdrop is large enough to fill the entire frame.
